Shaping the Future of Farming Together: Conclusions on Green Claims and Evolving Supply Chain Legislation

Personal statement

As we learn to live with our new climate, we must adapt our farming systems to the weather challenges that lie ahead to secure the planet’s food supplies for its growing population. The next 10 years will be critical for the agri-food industry, especially as both Europe and North America transition to new political mandates. The value chain needs to unite to shape the future of farming, and the GLOBALG.A.P. community – with a footprint that extends to 130 countries and 200,000 producers – can play an important role in this crucial period. Come and join us in Warsaw and be part of the discussion to shape the future of farming together.

About

AgFood Assist provides bespoke support on whole-chain sustainability, food security, and food safety to produce companies and agri-food industry organizations. Nigel started out as an agronomist, then agricultural manager, gaining more than 10 years of in-field crop production experience in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. He later became responsible for food safety and sustainability in an industry-leading multinational frozen produce business, holding the position for 20 years.

Combining agricultural studies and acquired industry knowledge and acumen, and with an MSc in Food Regulatory Affairs, Nigel has worked closely with a European agri-food industry sector association for more than 10 years on policy and advocacy. He represents the association in the European Commission’s Advisory Group on Sustainable Food Systems, and as vice chair of the European Agri-Food Chain Round Table on Plant Protection.

With an ability to see the bigger picture, to drive discussions, and to reach agreement between disparate parties, Nigel has led a host of industry working groups and committees. Since May 2023, he has chaired GLOBALG.A.P.’s Environmental Sustainability Working Group, which is responsible for developing the organization’s new environmental sustainability solution.
