Prof. Dr. Horst Lang first studied veterinary medicine in Belgium, followed by agricultural sciences with a focus on animal production in Germany. He then received his PhD at the Institute of Animal Breeding and Animal Husbandry of the University of Kiel.
After initial experience in the food industry, Horst started at Globus in 1996 and has been responsible for quality assurance, occupational safety, sustainability and crisis management. He ultimately became Human Rights Commissioner in 2024.
As part of his work, Horst was also chairman of the Food Law Committee of the German Food Retail Association (HDE/ BVLH) for over 10 years. Together with colleagues from European retailers, he developed the IFS standards and is now a board and ITC member. He also represented the interests of the German retail sector on the advisory boards of KAT e.V. and GLOBALG.A.P. for over 15 years.
Since 2010, Horst has been teaching at the University of Sopron as a lecturer in the Bachelor's program in Quality Management and in the Master's program in Risk Management. He has supervised numerous Bachelor's and Master's theses, as well as doctorates. In 2014, he was awarded the honorary professorship by the Senate of the University of Sopron (HU).
He is also involved in the Demeter Association for biodynamic farming in agriculture, and is an advocate for responsible and transparent production processes in the production of safe consumer goods.
