Born in Kutno, Adam Struzik is a doctor, local government official, social activist, parliamentarian, and politician. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical Academy in Łódź and a specialist in internal medicine. He completed postgraduate studies in the field of health care organization and economics, as well as postgraduate managerial studies in public administration at the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw.
Since 1984, he has been a member of the Polish People's Party, sitting on the provincial and national authorities of the party, and a Member of the European People's Party (EPP). He was Senator of the Republic of Poland from 1991–2001 and a member of the Senate committees on Social Policy and Health and Emigration Affairs and Poles Abroad.
From 1993–1997, he was Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. During his chairmanship of the Upper House of the Polish Parliament, he led, among other things, the recovery and restoration of many cultural and national heritage centers abroad. He initiated the creation of the House of Polonia in Vilnius, for which he was awarded the order “Meritus Patriae” by the foundation “Aid to Poles in the East.”
In 2007, he became vice president of the Union of Polish Regions. Since Poland's accession to the EU, he has been a member of the Committee of the Regions and in 2010 he was appointed to its presidium. He participates in the work of the commissions: COTER (Committee on Territorial Cohesion Policy and the EU Budget), ENVE (Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Energy), as well as Joint Consultative Committees and working groups, including on health and Brexit.
Since December 2001, he has continuously served as Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. For his activities, Adam Struzik has been awarded many Polish and foreign decorations, including: The Officer's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland, awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski for outstanding merits in activities for the benefit of the local community and for achievements in local government work, the Medal - Grzegorz Palka Award for activities to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of the Mazovian Voivodeship at the local, national and international levels, the “Polonia Mater Nostra Est” (“Poland is our mother”) decoration, emphasizing special merits for the Polish Nation and State and an active patriotic attitude.
